Effective July 10, 2026
This is a plain-language starting template, not legal advice. Have a lawyer review it before you rely on it for a public launch.
1. Information we collect
When you use Empori, we collect:
- Account info — your email, display name, and ZIP code.
- Content you create — posts, uploaded photos, messages, ratings, and reports.
- Device location (optional) — if you tap “Use my location,” your browser asks your permission and, if you allow it, we use your device’s location to center your search on nearby posts. We use it for that search only and do not store it.
- Usage data — basic, privacy-friendly analytics about how the app is used.
2. How we use it
We use your information to operate the Service: to authenticate you, show posts near you, deliver responses and messages, compute ratings, and keep the community safe (e.g. reviewing reports).
3. Service providers
We rely on a few third parties to run Empori:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and email delivery for account/notification messages.
- Google, Apple, and Facebook — optional sign-in providers. If you choose one, it authenticates you under that provider's terms; Empori receives the identity information needed to create your account.
- Vercel — hosting and privacy-friendly analytics.
- OpenStreetMap & a ZIP lookup service — to turn a city/ZIP into a map location. Your search location is sent to these services to place the map.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms.
4. Cookies & local storage
We use your browser’s local storage for essentials only: your sign-in session, your light/dark theme preference, and a cached map location so searches load faster. We do not use advertising cookies.
5. What others can see
Your posts, display name, and ratings are visible to other users. Your email is not shown publicly. Messages are visible only to you and the other participant in a conversation.
6. Your choices & rights
You can edit your profile at any time, and you can permanently delete your account (and its posts and messages) from your profile. Deleting your account removes your data from our active systems.
7. Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, your associated data is removed, subject to backups and any records we must keep by law.
8. Children
Empori is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures (including row-level access controls) to protect your data, but no system is perfectly secure.
10. Changes & contact
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the effective date above. Questions? Contact us through the app.
